.:: Emperor - Live in Los Angeles - July 16, 2006 ::.
When I read the news about Emperor's surprise reunion show which took place on September 30 last year I was very surprised... later when the USA dates where announced at the end of November I was very excited about it... another chance to see Emperor (I saw them back in 1999 in México City). I got everything ready, Passport, Visa, plane tickets, and the VIP ticket for the show... finally after a long wait the Emperial day arrived. For this show there were some different things from the show in 1999. Charmand Grimloch had been replaced by Einar (He might be an unknown musician, but I can say that he is by far the keyboard player which possesses the most aggressive live attack you could ever see and he did a great job doing backing vocals). Bass God Tyr had been replaced by Zyklon's Secthdamon, and the most relevant thing... Samoth was abscent because he was not able to get a Visa. The opening bands were Crematorium and Goatwhore. Around 11:30pm Emperor took the stage. During the very first seconds Ihsahn's voice couldn't be heard, but the problem was solved quickly. Overall the sound was pretty good. Einar and Sechtdamon did a great job doing their backing vocals, and both guys displayed their skills with furious peformances. Trym's drumming was tight and powerful as always. Although I noticed a few parts were played slower than on the albums, but still they sounded great. Ihsahn delivered a great performance as well. Despite Samoth abscence Emperor managed to bring a succesful show, sure there were parts which would have sounded better with Samoth, but still it was an amazing show. The response from the crowd was huge. The place was completely full (i.e. It was difficult to move to take pixs), and there was a great atmosphere with people singing and screaming the Emperial Anthems. Here are some pixs I took at the show. If you need a higher resolution version of one of these pixs for a magazine, fanzine, or anything else drop me a line (look for my e-mail below the pixs).
